Sawyer PointONE ™ Filter

We’ve made it as simple as it gets. No more digging wells if there is a water source, no constructing sand filters, and no more purification chemicals. No one has to boil their water to make it safe ever again.
Families are able to hook up their filter literally in minutes to almost any locally found container. The gravity-operated filter and fast flow rate mean anyone, anywhere can have clean water in a matter of seconds.

Just 4-inches long and less than 8 ounces, the Sawyer PointONE™ filter can deliver 1 liter of clean water in 60 seconds.
The Sawyer PointONE™ is a POINT-OF-USE SYSTEM. Since there is such a high flow rate, it eliminates the need to store water which reduces the chances of water being contaminated after it’s filtered. The only external force required for the system to function is gravity.
All Sawyer filters deliver 0.1 absolute micron biological filtration, removing 7 log (99.99999%) of all bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid); and 6 log (99.9999%) of all protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The kit includes everything you need to attach the filter to any plastic bucket or container (bucket not included).

Sawyer PointONE Filter with Bucket Adapter Kit – 1 ft Hose

Obtain a clean bucket or plastic container Use the hole cutter to drill a hole 1.5 inches from the bottom of the bucket (you can do this by hand).
Screw the connector, hose and filter onto the bucket. Fill the bucket with water from any source, lower the filter head below the water line, and let gravity do the rest.

Product #: [SP180], [SP180ND]
Made in USA.

Can you put muddy water in the bucket?

Yes, though backwashing will be required more frequently. It will not alter the effectiveness of the filter to remove harmful pathogens.

Do you need a power drill to cut the hole in the bucket?

No. You can cut the hole with the included hole cutter by hand.

How much water can be filtered/purified per day?

The flow rates of the filters and purifiers are determined by a combination of four variables:
Head pressure (The distance from the top of the water to the filter) Altitude (The higher the altitude, the slower the flow rate) How clean the filter is The filter itself (there are slight variations between filters)
The PointONE Filter with a 1 foot hose (Model SP180) attached to a standard five gallon bucket at sea level is capable of filtering up to 295 gallons (1117 liters) of water per day. The PointZERO TWO Purifier with a 3 foot hose (Model SP190) attached to a standard 5 gallon bucket at sea level is capable of purifying up to 87 gallons (327 liters) of water per day.
If you increase the head pressure by either lengthening the hose, attaching the filter to a larger container like a 55 gallon drum, or constantly keep the bucket full so the top of the water is as high as possible, this will increase the flow rate.

To estimate the flow rate of your filter based on the altitude where you will be filtering water and the inches (or centimeters) of head pressure:

Sawyer Water™ Filter Technology

Water Filtration

With the technology derived from kidney dialysis, we partnered with a fiber manufacturer to actually improve the hollow fiber membrane technology. In order to improve both the filtration rates and longevity of the filter, our team was dedicated to engineering something even more precise and rugged. To make it a superior solution, the fiber composition had to deliver exactly 0.1 & 0.02 micron filtration 100% of the time to ensure no bacteria would get through. Moreover, the membranes had to be sturdy enough to withstand backwashing which allows the filter to be cleaning and reused.

Our proprietary water filters are comprised of tiny “U” shaped micro-tubes that allow water to enter into their core through minuscule micro-pores. Contaminates get trapped in the tubes while the decontaminated water passes freely through. The high number of those tiny tubes and their significant surface area allow the filter to have one of the fastest flow rates available in the world. This high flow rate makes our filters easily utilized as point-of-use solutions, which has eliminated the need to store water – one of the leading causes of contaminated water throughout the world.

Each Sawyer filter is certified for ABSOLUTE microns; that means there is no pore size larger than 0.1 or 0.02 micron in size. This makes it impossible for harmful bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid) to pass through the Sawyer PointONE™ biological filter. At 7 log (99.99999%) the filter attains the highest level of filtration available today. If viruses are an issue, we offer the Point ZeroTWO Purifier (0.02 micron absolute pores). This is the first and thus far only portable purification device to physically remove viruses. And it does it at a >5.5 log (99.9997%) rate, exceeding EPA and NSF recommendations.

Sawyer’s revolutionary technology has also been implement in projects by the United Nations, and is currently being used in more than 70 countries around the world. Sawyer’s filters are so powerful, they could not actually be used for kidney dialysis anymore, as they would now remove beneficial particulates from human blood. They’ve been field tested for years by dozens of companies, professionals and are solving the global water crisis for hundreds of thousands of individuals internationally. When it comes to ensuring the safety of those who have trusted us to provide the most advanced solutions on the market, nothing less than 100% is good enough. All Sawyer Hollow Fiber Membrane filters are small, portable, easy-to-use, reliable, inexpensive, and can last a lifetime without needing to be replaced.
