Perros Santos Project
Perros Santos, Baja California Sur
Providing spay clinics
The Perros Santos project was launched in July 2023 by a committed group of dog lovers and advocates on a mission to help Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, by providing monthly spay/neuter clinics. Our goal is to fund one clinic a month in Todos Santos to curb the over population of stray and unwanted animals.
Even though our project is exclusively for spay/neuter, several of our volunteers are involved with rescue and fostering. They work with local rescue groups who help with adoptions. We have some community volunteers that identify and bring homeless dogs and cats to the clinics. Those are returned to their neighborhoods. The majority of the. animals we treat are brought to the clinics by their owners.
With these procedures, dogs lead longer, healthier lives, while the community benefits from fewer strays and more resources for better animal care.
In our first 12 monthly clinics 700 animals were sterilized and our goal is to achieve at least that number in our second year.ย The clinics are 100% volunteer run. When we started it was mostly expats but we have a growing number of community volunteers, including some high schoolers.
Our vet team does not volunteer their services but their fee for surgeries at our clinics is less than halfย their in-office fee.ย Grant funding is exclusively used for fees for surgeries and medications. The surgeries and post-op medications are provided free of charge to the community.
